So we all know that the Japanese get all the latest tech first and all that, but I just found out that 100mbit fiber optic internet access costs roughly 50 dollars for them.
Fifty dollars
a YEAR
Seriously. What the duck? We have got to get right the hell on closing that gap, 'cause DAMN.
Un. Fair.

damn. Why so cheap?
Are you sure its per year and not month? Also isn't weverything more expensive there like food and shelter, so yeah internet would have to be cheap.
Nope, it's definitely per year. That's a good point though Ender, the additional costs of living in Japan are such that it's not really a savings so much as a cost deferment. Still though, the reason it's so cheap is that they invest in their national infrastructure, rather than having companies squabble over it, giving people the lowest common denominator for the highest price possible.
Then again, Japan is roughly the size of California, so perhaps we can't be TOO hard on companies and a government faced with the monumental task of wiring every fruited plain and purple mountain out there.
*leaving ratioanl mode* well then califorina should have all the great infrastructure. *entering ratioanl mode*
EXACTLY!
Symmetric? Fuck.. I mean.. Fuck.. Epic Fail, America.
Yeah, there's absolutely no excuse for it. Ender, though, I think that we totally would have an awesome internet backbone here in the CA if it weren't for all these damned roads and all, not to mention the fact that we thrown money at stupid bullshit like protecting the rights of the poor farm animals who we're still going to eat.
