My primary argument about this delay is three-fold. First of all, it's not really about the consumers. When AT&T comes out to back the delay, you know they're just trying to hold onto their market share for a little longer under Verizon's oncoming assault. Nobody gives a shit about the dude in a trailer who doesn't know he needs a converter box.
Second of all, there will always be an excuse to delay it, which will also delay America's entrance into the 21st century data economy. We're embarrassingly far behind other nations considering our wealth, and this is the ONE technology which can change that. America is freaking VAST, so how else can we get blanketed high speed internet?
Finally, I think that if we just shut off the analog broadcast, people would get it. Picture it: Millions of people get their TVs shut off in the middle of whatever tripe they have showing, they're gonna call their friends, and THEIR friends, to see what the hell is up. Even among the inbred redneck communities, there's bound to be at least one person savvy enough to know what's up. If we don't, there will always be millions of people too lazy and stupid to figure it out. Cut them off completely though, and they're bound to work harder to fix it.
And there are those people who are too stupid or too lazy to do anything at all, the very same people who don't lift the toilet lid and shit their pants. Oh how I loathe them.
