A Plucked Chicken

You have to wonder if the philosophers of ancient Greece and such had a sense of humor about themselves. Take for example the story of Diogenes bringing Plato a plucked chicken to refute his definition of humanity. I like to think that everyone involved had a good laugh then sat down with thinking caps to revise the definition, but it could very well have been an unpleasant confrontation. What do you guys think?

I'd like to think that just as today how we combat tense situations with a little humor, that in the days of yore, they also did the same. I also like to think that guys played practical jokes on one another, like giving a guys sister leprosy..
